Tobacco Tax Increase: Please Act

Any talk of a tax increase should get residents of Louisiana riled up.  That’s why people around our state should be up in arms this coming week.

Rather than solving the state’s budget crisis by cutting spending, politicians in Baton Rouge are once again considering raising taxes to pay for more government waste and out-of-control spending.

The House Ways and Means Committee will consider five different bills next week to raise the tax on tobacco products.

Tax increases have consequences. As small business owners around the state will attest, they work hard to create jobs.  And their customers work hard to provide for their families.  Our state government is making both of these things harder every day by taxing residents of our state to death.

If we don’t stand up to a tax and spend culture, our state will fall further behind.  We need legislators to stand up and say enough is enough.

You can join the fight against an increase in taxes.  It just takes a minute to make your voice heard today at Louisianians Against Tobacco Taxes..

Our state deserves better than a state government with an out-of-control spending problem.

UPDATE:

We are getting word from Baton Rouge that lawmakers may attempt similar legislation to today’s defeated tax increase.

Again, Louisiana lawmakers may still hike taxes on tobacco.
